1948
During the Post Liberation Period (1945-1949), the Philippine Civic Affairs Unit III played a vital role in the reconstruction of San Jose, which was left in ruins after World War II. The city started rebuilding from broken homes, families, and dreams. It was a challenging time, but establishing schools became a priority amidst the hardships.
Amid the city’s revival and restoration, Dr. Anacleto E. Agaton envisioned building an educational institution to serve the youth of San Jose. This vision materialized through The Colleges of The Republic, officially incorporated on April 29, 1948, with its foundation day celebrated in June of the same year. Dr. Agaton’s mission was clear: to educate those hungry for knowledge, enabling them to contribute significantly to society.
1960-1975s
From its inception, The Colleges of the Republic offered Elementary and Secondary Courses. It later expanded to offer a four-year Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Vocational courses, including a two-year Preparatory Law Course leading to the title of Associate in Arts and Junior Normal College, then known as ETC.
As the college grew, more programs were added during the 1960s, such as Collegiate Commercial Courses and a Bachelor of Arts degree. In the same period, summer sessions were introduced, providing educational opportunities for Secondary, Undergraduate, and Graduate students.
In 1964, the college introduced its Master of Arts in Education. In 1975, it opened doors to Graduate Studies, offering Master of Arts programs in education, majoring in Administration and Supervision and Public Administration.
The 1970s brought further innovations, with the Colleges of the Republic starting its 5-year Night Secondary Course. This initiative allowed working individuals to pursue education in the evening while balancing their daytime commitments, making education more accessible to the youth of San Jose.
1980-1990s
Throughout the 1980s, the Colleges of the Republic gained recognition for offering a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy. This decade marked a breakthrough for the institution, as it became known for providing quality education to an eager population.
The 1990s witnessed the college embracing the age of Information Technology, offering Bachelor of Science programs in Secretarial Administration and Computer Science alongside two-year Associate Computer Science Courses. Moreover, the college catered to the educational needs of young children with the introduction of Pre-Elementary programs.
In 1994, the College of the Republic took a significant step forward, offering a Doctor of Philosophy program in Educational Management.
2000-present
Over the years, the Colleges of the Republic, now known as Core Gateway College, Inc. (CGCI), has impacted the community of San Jose and neighboring areas. Dr. Agaton’s vision has been kept alive through the generations, and CGCI remains committed to providing distinctive, unmatched services as it moves toward a culture of excellence.
As the college continues to evolve and adapt to new challenges, it will forever strive to offer the best education, providing hope and opportunity for those eager to learn and succeed.
